FEMILIA event: Election night Sedition

Election night performances with femme identifying Latinx artists.

Tue November 3, 2020 8-12pm ¡Medianoche! EST Zoom Livestream & Google Videochat EVENT CANCELED

NYC based Womxn identifying, Latinx artists will perform their citizenship for an IRL and digital FEMILIA Sedition event at WhiteBox Harlem . Short and long form performance art will build solidarity and display sovereignty across intersectional communities- regardless of status. Curated by artist Coralina Rodriguez Meyer for FEMILIA The City of Today for Feminine Urbanism, the performance program serves to ignite our ancestral interdependence through ritual, movement, gestures, proverbs and prototypes as survival strategies. Reacting to the historical and ongoing assault on our Latinx communities this election cycle, our matrilineal creatives will lead a call and response from elders to emerging participants in the resistance.

Why Where there is a growing feminization of poverty and violence in the American nightmare, what are the barriers to entry for oppressed people to participate in a democracy we built? How can performances of citizenship strengthen solidarity across decolonized communities? Why must our mixed BIPOC LGBTQ+ people choose between assimilation and appropriation when convergence courses through our veins? What does a feminine, Latinx sovereignty city look like?
